Abandoned vehicles are a nuisance as well as an eyesore. Don’t let abandoned vehicles ruin the look of your neighborhood. Under Pennsylvania motor vehicle laws, a vehicle is considered abandoned if:

• Left on a highway or public property in inoperable condition for 48 hours or longer;
• Left illegally on a highway or public property;
• Left on a highway or public property for 48 hours or longer and does not have valid license plate, inspection sticker, or VIN number; or
• Left on private property without owner’s consent for 48 hours or longer.

A deer has been struck and is on the road. Can someone clear it?

If you have a complaint about roadkill, a barking dog, a wild animal, or a stray dog, we can help! Our Animal Control Officer is trained to deal with a wide range of animal-related problems.

Dog Licenses

Do I have to get a license for my dog? How do I get it?

Dogs are required to be licensed annually. Applications can be downloaded from the Bucks County Treasurers Office. They are also available at http://www.padoglicense.com/®.

What should I do if I think a child is being abused?

Children are our most precious resource. Each child deserves the chance to grow up free from neglect or physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.

Can I have my child fingerprinted?

Personnel from the Upper Makefield Township Police Department are available to do non-criminal fingerprinting for township residents. Appointments are necessary for this service and are done Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Megan’s Law

Where can I find out about Megan’s Law? Are there any sex offenders in our area?

Like most other states, Pennsylvania has a Megan’s Law statute. This law is designed to protect citizens from sexual predators by requiring that sex offenders register with the Pennsylvania State Police. The State Police, in turn, notify local police departments that patrol communities in which offenders reside.

How can I get a copy of a police report?

If you need a copy of a police report for insurance or other reasons, call the Upper Makefield Township Police Department at 215-968-3020. There is a nonrefundable $15 fee for police reports. Reports are available only to individuals who are named somewhere in the report.

A copy of the report can be picked up at the Upper Makefield Township Police Department during business hours.

How can I make a police report?

There are several ways to make an official police report.

• In an emergency situation, call 9-1-1. A police officer will be dispatched to the location you specify.
• For non-emergencies during business hours, call 215-968-3020. For non-emergencies after business hours, call 215-598-7121. A police officer will be dispatched to the location you specify.
• You may also make a report in person by coming into the police station during normal business hours.

Can my group get a tour of the police station?

Traffic Citation

I received a ticket I think is unfair. What can I do?

We know it's never pleasant to receive a citation. If you are cited, you have 2 options.

1. You may plead guilty by paying the ticket at the District Court listed on the citation.
2. You may plead not guilty by contacting the District Court listed on the citation. A hearing date will be set for. You and the officer who issued the citation will appear at the hearing in front of the District Justice. You may be required by the District Court to post the amount of your fine and cost prior to your day in court. You will receive these funds back following the hearing if you are found not guilty.

Any individual or company wanting to solicit within Upper Makefield Township is required to obtain a permit through the police department. There is a $100 fee and you may apply in person for the permit at the police department.
